Congressman Renacci Calls Protecting Workers' Retirement a 'Bailout'
July 13, 2018
COLUMBUS — This week, thousands of workers and retirees rallied in front of the Ohio Statehouse ahead of a joint special committee hearing on the looming pension crisis that threatens the retirement security of more than 60,000 Ohioans. Unfortunately for those workers, Congressman Jim Renacci has dismissed congressional efforts to shore up the pensions they’ve earned as a “bailout.”
“Right now, thousands of workers are fighting to protect the pensions they earned over a lifetime of hard work. But instead of working with Democrats and Republicans trying to help their cause, Congressman Renacci has referred to efforts to help them as a ‘bailout,’” said Lara Sisselman, Ohio Democratic Party spokesperson. “Congressman Renacci tried to avoid paying taxes on more than $13 million in income and ran numerous straw donor schemes to evade campaign finance law, but he believes shoring up Ohio workers’ hard-earned retirement security is a ‘bailout.’ Congressman Renacci can’t be trusted to look out for anyone but himself.”
From Ohio Public Radio:
“…some conservatives – including Brown’s Republican opponent this fall, Congressman Jim Renacci – have opposed the idea, calling it a bailout using taxpayer money.”
